After obtaining a degree in history, Emmanuel Gobillard decided to become a priest and was ordained a few years later in the diocese of Le Puy-en-Velay, shaped by several significant experiences. When residing in Rome for his studies he was part of the chaplaincy of hospitals, a complementary experience of vulnerability with the one that he had when he suffered a serious accident. After being profoundly shaped by a sabbatical year in Madagascar in 2011, he was appointed auxiliary bishop of Lyon in 2016. In this diocese he mainly worked to prevent sexual abuse. He was also put in charge of the links with the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on behalf of the Church.
